This weekend, HBO Max announced it was renewing comedy series Rap Sh!t for a second season. This news comes shortly after the first season was released as eight episodes in July of this year, and apparently was such a success that the streaming service is happily giving the green light for more
“We’re so happy to play in the world of Rap Sh!t for another season with this incredibly talented team,” said the series creator and executive producer Issa Rae to Variety.
Here’s everything we know about what’s in store for the second season of Rap Sh!t.
Who in the cast will return for season two of Rap Sh!t?
In a statement, Rap Sh!t‘s showrunner Syreeta Singleton mentioned the entire cast of season one generally, saying, “This show and cast are one of a kind and I’m thrilled to get to do this again with them. We’re going bigger and harder!”
That cast includes Aida Osman, KaMillion, Jonica Booth, Devon Terrell and RJ Cyler. Osman and KaMillion will be backs as two former high school friends, Shawna and Mia, from Miami who then reunite to rap together. Issa Rae will be back as executive producer.
What will season two of Rap Sh!t be about?
The first season began with Shawna and Mia in very different places in their lives. Shawna had moved to New York and Mia had a baby, a little girl named Melissa, breaking apart the once formerly close friends. Shawna ends up moving back to Miami and starts working at a hotel while posting her own rap videos to social media. Meanwhile, Mia has become successful as an influencer and with her OnlyFans account.
They reconnect after a party with some free styling on Instagram Live, which turns into live performances and other opportunities. But their course does not run smooth, with the pair facing numerous setbacks, especially in their relationship. They’re also both dealing with romantic prospects that complicate and spice up each episode.
The season concludes with Mia breaking up once and for all with Melissa’s father, with whom she’s had an off and on relationship for years. And it ends with the police closing in on Shawna, who has been running a credit card scam all season. All this happens just after the friends have decided to go on tour together, so either season two will be showing Shawna fighting the law or some more exciting travels. It might also explore how Mia’s relationship with her new guy, Ca$h Chaser the Goat, is going.
When will production begin on season two of Rap Sh!t?
It has not yet been announced when the show will begin filming again, but if the second season is released on a similar schedule of next summer, it will likely be quite soon.
