“You know you’re a really nice person.” “So are you.” “No, I’m not.” Utopia has revealed the official trailer for an indie love triangle drama titled Chestnut, the feature directorial debut of up-and-coming filmmaker Jac Cron. This premiered at the 2023 Frameline Film Festival already, and will be playing at Newfest and other fests this fall. A recent college graduate falls into a seductive social life and triangle of attraction with two new friends, party girl Tyler and the more reserved, thoughtful Danny. Frameline adds: “Named for a street in Philly’s Castro-equivalent neighborhood, Chestnut is an emotional drama steeped in sodium street lights and bar-sign neon, following a young woman through the complex, sexually charged liminal space between college and full adulthood.” Chestnut stars Natalia Dyer, Rachel Keller, and Danny Ramirez. Looks like a sultry, honest portrait of lust, a simple coming-of-age tale about sexuality and finding yourself.
Here’s the official trailer (+ poster) for Jac Cron’s Chestnut, direct from Utopia’s YouTube:
Annie just graduated college and she’s stuck in her university town of Philly for the summer. She’s ready to start her new job in LA come fall, but something’s holding her back. As she falls into an aimless summer, she finds herself entangled with Tyler, a woman she meets at a bar one night and Danny, who is Tyler’s co-worker or best friend or…? Annie can never tell. Chestnut follows Annie through a summer of self-discovery as she, Tyler, and Danny each battle for unrequited connection, ultimately helping Annie find her voice in desire and independence. Chestnut is both written and directed by American indie filmmaker Jac Cron, making her feature directorial debut after a few other short films previously. Produced by Lizzie Shapiro and Lexi Tannenholtz. This initially premiered at the 2023 Frameline Film Festival earlier in the summer. It’s playing at more festivals this fall, with no specific release date set yet – stay tuned for updates.
