When You Left Me On That Boulevard is an indie dramedy short film made by Kayla Galang, a Filipino filmmaker based in Austin, Texas. It’s written and directed by Kayla and speaks to her own experience growing up. The film won the top award, the Short Film Grand Jury Prize, at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival back in January at the start of this year, then went on to win the Special Jury Award for Vision at the 2023 SXSW Film & TV Festival in March. Teenager Ly and her cousins get high before a boisterous family Thanksgiving at their auntie’s house in southeast San Diego in 2006. The film’s cast includes Kailyn Dulay, Melissa Arcaya, Elle Rodriguez, Whitney Agustin, Gina May Gimongala, Allan Wayne Anderson. Ah yes, nothing like high school friends and boredom.
