The Smile have unveiled “Friend of a Friend,” the latest preview of their upcoming sophomore album, Wall of Eyes.
The song, which was initially previewed in concert during The Smile’s 2022/2023 tour, features strings from the London Contemporary Orchestra and saxophone from Robert Stillman.
The Smile have also announced Wall Of Eyes, On Film, a cinematic event in collaboration with filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson. Screening at 12 independent cinemas across the world between January 18th-25th, the event will include a complete playback of Wall Of Eyes in surround sound and featuring never-before-seen footage of the album’s recording sessions, plus the world premiere of the music video for “Friend of a Friend” directed by Anderson and shot on 35mm. The programming also includes past collaborations between Anderson and Thom Yorke. More information and ticketing details can be found here.
Wall of Eyes arrives in full on January 26th via XL Recordings. Previously, the band previewed the album with “Bending Hectic” and “Wall of Eyes.”
