“‘Historically accurate’ is subjective.” Apple TV has unveiled a funny promo featurette for the wacky British comedy series The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin, launching streaming to watch on March 1st (this weekend!!). Noel Fielding stars Dick Turpin, the most dangerous highway robber of the 18th century. It’s based on a true story. Sort of. This comedy series is a fictional take on the life of highway robber Dick Turpin – originally Richard Turpin, an English highwayman whose exploits were romanticised following his execution in York for horse theft. By the early 1730s, he had joined a gang of deer thieves and, later, became a poacher, burglar, horse thief and killer. This is his story. Though it’s all made up, at least most of it is, and some of it isn’t. Co-starring alongside Fielding in the ensemble cast: Ellie White, Marc Wootton, Duayne Boachie, Hugh Bonneville, Tamsin Greig, Asim Chaudhry, Dolly Wells, Joe Wilkinson, Mark Heap, Samuel Leakey, and Kiri Flaherty. If you weren’t sold from the first trailer, maybe this video will convince you this looks like it’s going to be very funny? I appreciate the background and context provided in here, it actually makes me want to watch this and see all these folks get into trouble.
