Grey’s Anatomy has been renewed for its record-breaking 21st season. Although this may sound like good news, fans of the medical drama megahit are not happy. The fans feel as if the show has run its course and it is time for it to end. The stars of Grey’s Anatomy may feel the same way and it has been suggested the show start preparing for members of the cast to leave.
Shondaland Should Get Smaller
Fans of Grey’s Anatomy are over it. They no longer want the ABC medical drama, created by Shonda Wilson, to continue. Their reasons vary from fan to fan, but the consensus appears most of them will be willing to say to say goodbye to the show.
The debate about when Grey’s Anatomy “jumped the shark” has been up for debate for quite some time now. That debate is moot. The series has been renewed for another season. It appears the only thing left to debate is who will and will not be returning for that record-breaking 21st season.
Ellen Pompeo As Meredith Grey
Ellen Pompeo has already left her starring role as Meredith Grey, the character the television show was named for. The actress has agreed to continue with the voiceovers. Ellen Pompeo has also agreed to appear on Grey’s Anatomy as a “recurring role” for the current season.
Will Ellen Pompeo continue her light duty on Grey’s Anatomy? The answer to that question is something no one knows. There are too many variables as to who will be leaving the medical drama and who will be staying.
The Other Doctors on Grey’s Anatomy
Things appear to be up in the air about many of the doctors on Grey’s Anatomy. Kevin McKidd, who portrays Dr. Owen Hunt, and Kim Raver, who portrays his wife Dr. Teddy Altman, have yet to commit to the recording-breaking series. Caterina Scorsone, who is Dr. Amelia Shepherd on the show, and Camilla Luddington, who is Dr. Jo Wilson, have signed contracts for the 21st season.
Unless things change, which is always a possibility, both Chandra Wilson (Dr. Miranda Bailey) and James Pickens, Jr. (Dr. Richard “Still The Chief” Webber) will be returning. Chandra Wilson has been quoted saying “I’m challenging myself to be there until the very last episode, the very last day, the very last scene.” James Pickens, Jr. has previously joked “They’ll probably wheel me out in a wheelchair.”
Possible Guest Stars For Grey’s Anatomy
There is also the possibility of bringing back former Grey’s Anatomy stars in the 21st season. Seeing the fans are wanting to the show to end, this could be used as a way to draw those unhappy fans backs. Jesse Williams, who portrayed Dr. Jackson Avery, and Sarah Drew, who portrayed Dr. April Kepner, have made guest appearances before. Kate Walsh (Dr. Addison Montgomery) and Greg Germann (Dr. Tom Korcick) have also returned for an episode or two.
Jessica Capshaw, who portrayed Dr. Arizona Robbins, will be making a guest appearance on Grey’s Anatomy this season. It is unknown exactly when that appearance will be, but Shonda Wilson has been hinting at it for some time. If her guest appearance goes well and the fans are responsive, it might be possible for Arizona Robbins to be back at Grey Sloane Memorial Hospital.
