Baseball Doc Series ‘Charlie Hustle & The Matter of Pete Rose’ Trailer

“I was wrong by not coming clean originally, but I played the game right.” HBO has launched the trailer for a documentary series called Charlie Hustle & The Matter of Pete Rose, a 4-episode event about baseball’s Pete Rose. It chronicles baseball legend Pete Rose’s career, rise to fame, scandals and bid for reinstatement, with archival footage & interviews exploring his contradictory persona as both a tenacious hustler and a fallen icon tainted by gambling. Extensive archival footage + interviews from teammates, family, friends, and journalists detail Rose’s heroic rise and subsequent banishment from the game. Brash & cocky, Rose earned the nickname “Charlie Hustle” for his do-or-die tenacity, going on to win three World Series titles and breaking Ty Cobb’s record for the most career hits. However, his troubles off of the field would eventually put him in prison for tax evasion and get him expelled from baseball for gambling leading to a permanent stain on the game. Aided by Rose’s ever-colorful insights, Charlie Hustle & The Matter of Pete Rose is a fascinating portrait of a complex individual full of contradictions – one seeking redemption but not quite ready for full atonement. This really looks like it should be entertaining & intriguing to watch.

Charlie Hustle & The Matter of Pete Rose takes a retrospective journey, spanning more than 60 years, to tell the story of baseball’s all-time hits leader whose on-field achievements and off-field transgressions have made him one of the most polarizing figures in all of sports. Charlie Hustle & The Matter of Pete Rose is a docu series directed by acclaimed American producer / writer / filmmaker Mark Monroe, director of the films Morning Light and My Decisions, plus a few TV episodes previously. A Bad Robot / Zipper Bros Films Production in association with Greg & Jeff Productions, Diamond Docs, & Sutter Road Picture Company. It’s executive produced by Mark Monroe, along with J.J. Abrams, Sean Stuart, Glen Zipper, Rachel Rusch Rich, Greg Grunberg, and Jeffrey Lenkov.
