“Music is its own language, it really is.” Oscilloscope Labs has revealed an official trailer for a music doc called Not Not Jazz, from filmmaker Jason Miller. After first premiering in 2019, this is finally getting an official VOD release from Oscope, arriving to watch at home in August this summer. “Medeski Martin & Wood is a group that effortlessly straddles the gap between avant-garde improvisation & accessible groove-based jazz… Emerging out of the New York Downtown scene in the early ’90s, MMW soon set out on endless cross-country tours before returning back home to Manhattan to further refine their sound through myriad influential experimentations.” The film is an in-depth look at the unique & wholly improvisational creative process of the revolutionary “avant-groove” band Medeski, Martin and Wood, as they endeavor to record an album. “I am deeply grateful to have met John, Billy, & Chris and to have been entrusted with documenting their process as musicians and exploring their personal lives. It’s been a long and arduous journey to get the film made and released, and I learned a lot from them along the way,” says director Jason Miller. Groove on.

An in-depth look at the unique and wholly improvisational creative process of the revolutionary “avant-groove” band known as Medeski Martin and Wood, as they endeavor to record a new album at the famed Allaire Studio (in upstate New York), 25 years after their original formation in Brooklyn, NYC. Not Not Jazz is directed by American indie music filmmaker Jason Miller, director of the other music docs Blackberry Smoke: Live at the Georgia Theatre and The Past Is a Grotesque Animal previously, along with a few other music projects. Produced by Tyler Davidson, Jim Stark, Elie Weiss. This initially premiered back in 2019 but it was never actually released back then. Oscilloscope Labs will debut Miller’s Not Not Jazz doc direct-to-VOD / DVD starting on August 9th, 2024 coming soon. Anyone fans? Who wants to watch this?
