“See it – while it’s still only fiction.” Oh damn, okay. Fathom Events has debuted a new trailer for a 25th Anniversary special event re-release screening of The Matrix in theaters nationwide this September. The seminal sci-fi classic made by The Wachowskis originally opened in theaters in 1999, in the spring earlier that year. It will play again on the big screen in September for two nights – on the 19th and 22nd. These showings also include a 10 min featurette: “Join Jessica Henwick (Bugs in The Matrix Resurrections) as she looks back, delving deep into the influential cyberthriller that thrust moviemaking into an astonishing new dimension; see never-before-seen personal reflections in an exclusive featurette looking back on the standout legacy of The Matrix.” Keanu Reeves stars as computer hacker Neo, who discovers the shocking truth–the life he knows is the elaborate deception of an evil cyber-intelligence running a complex computer simulation. It also stars Laurence Fishburne, Carrie-Anne Moss, Hugo Weaving, Joe Pantoliano. It goes without saying that this seminal sci-fi classic is always, always worth watching up on the big screen.

The Wachowskis’ The Matrix was also re-released a few other times before, most recently in 2021 in many theaters as well. Here’s another longer anniversary trailer for The Matrix from the UK’s re-release this year:
Have you ever had a dream, Neo, that you were so sure was real? What if you were unable to wake from that dream? How would you know the difference between the dream world and the real world…? When a beautiful stranger known as Trinity (Carrie Ann Moss) leads computer hacker Neo (Keanu Reeves) to a forbidding underworld, he discovers the shocking truth – the life he knows is the elaborate deception of an evil cyber-intelligence. Neo joins legendary and dangerous rebel warrior Morpheus (Lawrence Fishburne) in the battle to destroy the digital illusion enslaving humanity. The Matrix is written and directed by Lana & Lilly Wachowski, also known as The Wachowskis – this was their second feature film after the time after directing Bound (1996) before making The Matrix Reloaded a few years later. Produced by Joel Silver. Warner Bros originally released The Matrix on March 31st, 1999 in theaters nationwide – it went on to make a total of $171.4 million at the US box office that year. Fathom Events will host these special screenings of The Matrix on 2 days September 19th + September 22nd, 2024 later this fall. Ticket info is right here.
