While fans wait for the Dancing With The Stars Season 33 premiere, the pro dancers are hard at work with their celebrity partners. As the premiere date inches closer, the couples are rehearsing and fine-tuning the steps in the studio. Pro dancer Emma Slater has pretty strong feelings about her partner this year. In fact, she revealed she burst into tears when she met him.
So what was it about actor Reginald VelJohnson that made Emma cry? Read on to get the scoop.
Emma Slater Cried Tears Of Joy When Meeting Reginald VelJohnson
Over the past few seasons, pro dancer Emma Slater has been at the center of showmance rumors and drama with her celebrity partners. Viewers shipped her with both Trevor Donovan and Mauricio Umansky.
But this year, her partner is 72-year-old Family Matters actor Reginald VelJohnson. It seems much less likely that showmance rumors will emerge from this partnership.
This year, Emma was over the moon to meet her celebrity partner. In a new interview, she confessed that she was brought to tears upon meeting the actor in the rehearsal room.
“I couldn’t help but cry a little bit when I saw him,” Emma shared with Us Weekly after appearing on GMA with VelJohnson. “Because I’m such a fan and I have watched Die Hard every year … honestly, [for] decades now.”
And for the actor, the feelings were mutual.
“I just looked at her face, [and] fell in love. She’s wonderful,” VelJohnson added.
A positive working relationship is necessary to make it on Dancing With The Stars. It seems like these two are already off to a great start.
The Pair Can’t Wait To Show Off Their First Routine
Older contestants generally don’t make it quite as far on Dancing With The Stars. But Emma Slater is determined to take Reginald VelJohnson all the way to the finale.
“We are slowly getting into the steps,” the British dancer shared. “And honestly, it’s more about, for Reggie, he has some feeling of some, like, good groove.”
When the actor feels a little shy or insecure, Emma shows him his old acting roles to boost his confidence.
“I showed him some videos of Family Matters,” the 35-year-old added. “I was like, ‘This was you. Do you remember [doing] this?’ And he was like, ‘Oh yeah.’ And I’m like, ‘Yeah, do it again!”
A tribute to Family Matters isn’t outside the realm of possibilities for the pair.
