“Who are you?” “I’m a Boxtroll!” 🧀 Laika has unveiled a brand new trailer for their kooky 2014 animated comedy called The Boxtrolls, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. The film premiered at the Venice Film Festival and opened exactly 10 years ago this week – in late September of 2014 – their feature made inbetween ParaNorman (2012) and Kubo and the Two Strings (2016). “Everyone in Cheesebridge is shaking hands and stomping their feet in celebration of the 10th anniversary of The Boxtrolls! There’s no better time to revisit Laika’s groundbreaking stop-motion animated adventure, it’s filled with unforgettable settings, indelible characters, and white-knuckled excitement. Unbox this Oscar-nominated favorite now—on streaming and digital.” This cheese-filled British comedy also features an amazing voice cast as well: with Ben Kingsley, Isaac Hempstead Wright, Elle Fanning, Dee Bradley Baker, Steve Blum, Toni Collette, Jared Harris, Nick Frost, Richard Ayoade, Tracy Morgan, Simon Pegg. I remember covering this one when it first released, featuring all the teasers and trailers along with very cheesy promotions. Congrats on one decade.

The Boxtrolls are monsters living below the streets of Cheesebridge, who crawl out of the sewers at night to steal what the townspeople hold most dear: their children and their cheeses. Or so the townspeople have always believed… In truth, the Boxtrolls are just a community of lovable oddballs raising an abandoned and orphaned human boy named Eggs as one of their own. When the Boxtrolls are targeted by a villainous exterminator who is bent on eradicating them, Eggs must venture aboveground and team up with an adventurous young girl to save them. The Boxtrolls is co-directed by filmmakers Graham Annable (story artist on ParaNorman) & Anthony Stacchi (co-director of Open Season) as their only feature film made together. The script is written by Irena Brignull & Adam Pava, adapted from the novel “Here Be Monsters!” by Alan Snow. The story is adapted by Anthony Stacchi & Phil Dale. The film first premiered at the 2014 Venice Film Festival and it was released by Focus Features in the US on September 26th, 2014. Laika’s The Boxtrolls is now available to watch streaming or on VOD or on Blu-ray whenever you want cheese. Fun one?
