Dancing With The Stars Season 33 took a week off on October 1 due to the Vice Presidential debate. But fans felt delighted to welcome back the contestants on October 7 with Soul Train Night.
So which couples dominated the leaderboard and who has more work to do before the October 8 episode? Read on to get the scoop.
The DWTS Season 33 Contestants Groove On Soul Train Night
To kick off Soul Train Night, reality star Phaedra Parks and Val Chmerkovskiy began with a Quickstep to Aretha Franklin’s “Think.” Although Phaedra admitted the routine was difficult for her, the judges raved over her performance, including guest judge Rosie Perez. They gave Phaedra and Val a 30/40, earning them their first 8s of the season.
Rugby player Ilona Maher and Alan Bersten also impressed judges with their Foxtrot to “Lady Marmalade” by Labelle, earning a 30/40 as well.
But was it enough to take these couples to the top of the leaderboard?
The Bachelor star Joey Graziadei and Jenna Johnson have been among the leaders of the pack all season long. But tonight, they took home the first 9s of the season for their Jive to “Shout” by the Isley Brothers and a 34/40 overall.
But even so, another couple still outperformed them.
For the third week in a row, Chandler Kinney and Brandon Armstrong topped the leaderboard. They scored a 36/40 for their Cha-cha-cha to “It’s Tricky” by Run-DMC.
It’s definitely “tricky” to hold the top spot for so many weeks. Can they do it again tomorrow night?
Which Couples Improved?
Gleb Savchenko and model Brooks Nader caught a lot of flack from viewers over the past few weeks due to their ongoing PDA. But even so, judges loved their Rumba to Marvin Gaye’s “Sexual Healing.” Derek Hough joked that their routine “made [him] pregnant.”
Despite hovering around the bottom of the leaderboard all season, actor Eric Roberts and Britt Stewart earned a 7 tonight. They danced the Foxtrot to “Let’s Stay Together” by Al Green. However, many expect Eric and Britt to face elimination tomorrow night.
There wasn’t an elimination on Soul Train Night, as it was prerecorded last week. However, that means two couples will go home during Tuesday night’s episode. Fans will need to keep voting for their favorite contestants to keep them in the competition.
