Sports analyst and TV personality Michael Strahan recently became the subject of controversy during a Veterans Day show. Since then, it’s been reported that Strahan had an incident with a reporter. The TV personality has recently spoken out over the incident on social media.
A Video Appeared To Show Michael Strahan Taking A Reporter’s Phone
The Fox Sports news analyst recently appeared at a San Diego Naval Base show around Veterans Day. During the event, he appeared alongside various Fox crew and figures like Terry Bradshaw and Rob Gronkowski.
However, Strahan’s appearance became the subject of controversy during the playing of the national anthem during the “Fox NFL Sunday” broadcast. While most in attendance placed their hands over the hearts, Strahan could be seen with his arms down and hands interlocked.
Many took to social media to criticize Strahan for the gesture. Newsmax host Todd Starnes, in particular, took to social media to criticize the personality. In a post on X, he described Strahan’s behavior as “repugnant” and “cowardly.”
Following the controversy, however, a video obtained by the Daily Mail showed Strahan have an altercation with a reporter. As seen in the video, Strahan appeared to grab the reporter’s phone and throw it after being asked about the national anthem controversy.
According to the publication, Strahan was calmly asked for a comment upon arriving home from Good Morning America. Before grabbing the phone, he could be heard saying, “Don’t come to my house, man!”
An Inside Source Also Shed Some Light On The Situation
Following the initial controversy, Strahan shared a photo of his father, Maj. Gene W. Strahan, on Instagram. At the time, he called his father his “hero” and gave thanks to “all veterans and active service members.”
An inside source recently spoke with the Daily Mail to shed some light over the situation. It was noted that, “Peers have [Strahan’s] back and understand that he wasn’t making the moment about himself.”

It was noted that, “There isn’t going to be any type of punishment or fine going Michael’s way.” The source also shared that Strahan “knows the man he is, and he almost doesn’t want to address the controversy to give it more life.”
Discussing what happened, the source claimed, “Michael wants Veterans Day to be for those men and women who deserve it and deserve the praise, to be in the conversation this way and to extend the talk on what people think he was doing, it would be a disservice to what the day means.”
Michael Strahan Discussed The Situation On Social Media
Strahan himself later addressed the situation on Instagram. He shared in the video: “I wanna address what happened this past weekend, and I feel like I need to address it, because it spilled over to the point where I’d get out of my car today, and I’m ambushed by a media outlet here at my house.”
Strahan added he was “not proud of the way [he] handled that whole situation.” He added, “You gotta protect your family, and you gotta protect your home, which is what I felt like I needed to do in that moment.”
The TV personality denied the gesture was meant as a form of protest. As he shared, “I have nothing to protest. I have no statement to be made. The only statement that should be made and that I wanna make is that I love the military. I’ve always loved the military, and I will always love the military.”
Instead, Strahan claims he was simply “caught up in the moment.” As he shared, “I somewhat panicked, and I’m like, ‘Do I be the fool that puts his hand over his heart after? Or do I just stand here with my hands in front of me respectfully?’ Which, that’s what I did, and that’s what happened.”
Strahan also apologized to any members of the “military and veterans” he offended. As he shared, “I’m a product of the military, a proud lover of the military and a proud lover of all those who served before now and who will serve in the future.”
