“We always want what we don’t have…” Indeed. This kind of suburbia also creeps me out. Starz unveiled an official US trailer for a streaming series called The Couple Next Door, debuting on Starz to watch in January 2025. This British TV series originally premiered in the UK in November 2023 on Channel 4. Starz is finally playing this in the US for streaming more than a year later. A young couple move to an upscale neighbourhood to start a family, but soon find themselves entangled in a complex web of desire and betrayal with their new neighbors. Evie and her husband Pete move next door to the uber hot traffic-cop Danny and yoga instructor Becka and strike up a friendship, but a night of passion between Evie and Danny could have consequences. It’s an English-language version of the original Dutch series Nieuwe Buren (The Neighbors). Starring Eleanor Tomlinson, Sam Heughan, Alfred Enoch, Hugh Dennis, and Jessica De Gouw. This definitely looks like a series for contemporary binge culture to get caught up in the desires & troubles & insecurities of these suburbanites. I’d prefer not to get involved in any of my neighbors’ lives. No, thank you.

A six-part thriller, The Couple Next Door stars Sam Heughan, Eleanor Tomlinson, Jessica De Gouw, and Alfred Enoch. The series is a deliciously dark psychological drama exploring the stultifying claustrophobia of suburbia as well as the fallout of chasing your darkest desires. When Evie (Eleanor Tomlinson) and Pete (Alfred Enoch) move into an upscale neighborhood, they find themselves in a world of curtain twitching and status anxiety but soon find friendship in the shape of the couple next door: alpha traffic cop Danny (Sam Heughan) and his wife, glamorous yoga instructor Becka (Jessica De Gouw). The Couple Next Door is a series created and written by David Allison, a writer on “The Case”, “Bedlam”, “Trust Me”, “Marcella”, “Suspect”. All of the episodes are directed by Belgian director Dries Vos. Based on the Dutch series Nieuwe Buren (The Neighbors) originally from 2024.
