Aaron Pierre has commented on his DCU John Stewart casting.
In October 2024, it was officially announced that Pierre had been cast in Lanterns and will be playing Green Lantern John Stewart in James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU. He’ll star in Lanterns opposite Kyle Chandler, who has been tapped to play Hal Jordan.
Speaking with ComicBook, Pierre commented on the casting and reassured fans he’s going to do his “very best to serve and honor and elevate” the character.
“What I can tell you is that the team are just super, super excited to have this opportunity to bring this story to the people,” Pierre said. “And, so far as I’m concerned, I’m gonna do my very best to serve and honor and elevate in any way I can, John Stewart and the [Green Lantern] Corps. Hopefully, I serve that and it resonates with me.”
Aaron Pierre is doing “extensive” research to play the DCU’s John Stewart
Pierre also said that the research he was doing into John Stewart has been “extensive.”
The Rebel Ridge actor has commented on the DCU casting before. When it was announced he will play John Stewart in Lanterns, Pierre wrote on Instagram, “Tremendously honoured and abundantly grateful. A dream come true. Thank you all for the love and beautiful energy. Thank you for welcoming me to DC. Let’s work!”
A premiere date for Lanterns has not yet been set; although, Gunn previously said fans could expect it to come out around the same time as Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, which is dated for June 26, 2026.
“The series follows new recruit John Stewart and Lantern legend Hal Jordan, two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland,” the logline for Lanterns reads.
Lanterns is co-written by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King, while James Hawes is directing the first two episodes. Mundy, Lindelof, King, and Hawes all serve as executive producers.
