In the extremely meta trailer for Sony’s upcoming Anaconda remake, Jack Black’s and Paul Rudd’s characters get jazzed up about doing their own low-budget version of the original 1997 cult classic. Watch the full clip below.
After securing a loan for less than $10,000, Doug (Black) and Griff (Rudd) spring into action alongside Thandiwe Newton and Steve Zahn. They acquire a riverboat for the shoot, write the script, and hire a snake handler for their very real snake. The only problem? As total amateurs, nobody has any idea of what they’re doing, and the crew is forced to set out for the Amazon to figure it out.
“Doug and Griff have been best friends since they were kids, and have always dreamed of remaking their all-time favorite movie: the cinematic ‘classic’ Anaconda,” reads the official logline. ” When a midlife crisis pushes them to finally go for it, they head deep into the Amazon to start filming. But things get real when an actual giant anaconda appears, turning their comically chaotic movie set into a deadly situation. The movie they’re dying to make? It might just get them killed…”

The Anaconda remake was directed by Tom Gormican, who co-wrote the film with Kevin Etten. This duo was well-suited for the film after previously helming the 2022 meta-comedy The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, starring Nicolas Cage.
1997’s Anaconda starred Jennifer Lopez, Ice Cube, Jon Voight, Eric Stoltz, and Owen Wilson as a documentary film crew attempting to track down a legendary snake. The film was a box office hit, raking in $136.8 million on a $45 million budget, and spawned a franchise that most recently included the 2015 crossover, Lake Placid vs. Anaconda.
Meanwhile, Jack Black and Paul Rudd’s Anaconda opens in theaters on Christmas 2025.
