Since joining The View, fans have learned a lot about Whoopi Goldberg and her everyday life. This includes various health battles the star has faced over the years, including sepsis. Recently, many have taken to social media to share their thoughts and concerns over Goldberg, with some even offering advice.
Whoopi Goldberg Officially Joined The View Back In 2007
Whoopi Goldberg has had a long career as an actress and comedian. Since 2007, many know her best for her work on The View.
For years, Whoopi has served as a co-host and a moderator on the show and has revealed a lot about her life. Recently, fans have been keeping her in their thoughts after learning about the star’s health.

As Newsweek previously reported, there have been times when Goldberg’s health issues have even kept her from her role on The View.
Back in 2019, Goldberg was hospitalized for a severe case of pneumonia and sepsis. At the time, this caused her to be absent from the New York-based talk show for over a month. As she began to heal, she released a video with Good Morning America to explain what happened.
At the time, the actress shared, “I had pneumonia, and I was septic. Pneumonia in both lungs, which meant there was fluid, there was all kinds of stuff going on. And yes, I came very, very close to leaving the Earth. Good news, I didn’t.”
As previously reported, the episode would be the last time Whoopi’s health kept her from the show. Earlier this year, as previously reported, she missed episodes due to dealing with the flu.
Recently, on social media, fans have been looking back at the health issues Whoopi has faced over the years. In particular, one fan shared they were shocked to learn that the star nearly “died of sepsis.”
A Few Fans Also Offered Advice On What They Think Would Be Best For Goldberg
The redditor fan continued, “Whoopi Goldberg has had several health issues, including a severe battle with pneumonia and sepsis (around 2019) that nearly killed her, recurring sciatica requiring a walker (2021), and testing positive for COVID-19 (2023) and the flu (2025), leading to temporary absences from The View.”
“She’s generally fine after these incidents but deals with ongoing chronic conditions like sciatica. Glad she beat it all. She’s a tough lady. Can’t wait for her to be back. This 2-week hiatus is killing me. But she must be tired at 70 to keep going after all she has overcome physically.”

Since then, fans have also been sharing their reactions to these health issues. To many, it was shocking to realize that the world was close to losing Whoopi. A few also noted that, health issues aside, it might be for the best for Whoopi to regularly take time off from the show. Some comments included:
- “Yes, I remember that 2019 incident she was out for a long time and they were very coy about it on air and finally when she came back Whoopi straight up said, ‘I was on my deathbed’ (paraphrase) and she thanked all the doctors and nurses who had overseen her care.”
- “Ohhh yeah, wow, she really did almost die. Sepsis is nothing to mess around with.”
- “At some point I think some of her doctors were in the audience and she mentioned them and thanked them.”
- “Maybe she needs a week every month off to feel better. Or do three days a week so she has 4 days off in a row. Producers need to start working with her as she grows older…. Better to see a healthy happy Whoopi 3 days a week who enjoys the show again.”
