The previously announced Baywatch reboot has gotten some exciting updates, including the addition of a prominent director joining onto the upcoming rebooted series.
What are the new Baywatch reboot updates?
Fox is preparing to find the next stars for its upcoming Baywatch reboot in some interesting ways. The company recently announced that it would be holding an open casting call for the reboot and will be looking to cast “a wide range of roles, from lifeguards and beachgoers to bartenders, buddies and love interests to rescuers and rescuees of all kinds, as well as additional characters yet to be written,” according to the announcement.
The open casting call is set to take place on February 18, 2026, at the Marina Del Rey Marriott in Marina Del Ray, California. Fox asks actors that are over the age of 18 to come in wardrobe that “evokes a beach setting.” According to a report from Deadline, the series is set to begin production in March, giving Fox just under a month to find some of what looks to be a large cast.
“The Baywatch Open Casting Call gives actors a rare opportunity to join the team of an iconic global sensation that celebrates the California spirit and helped define LA’s incomparable beach culture,” Michael Thorn, President of FOX Television Network. “We’re excited to discover fresh faces with authentic SoCal energy as we bring back Baywatch for a new generation of fans.”
Alongside the news of the casting call, Deadline is also reporting that McG, or Joseph McGinty Nichol, has joined the project in a directorial role. The director will be behind the camera for the first episode for the reboot and will also serve as executive producer on the series.
McG is best known for directing the Charlie’s Angels reboot movies in the 2000s, as well as 2017’s The Babysitter, its follow-up, 2020’s The Babysitter: Killer Queen, and 2024’s Uglies. He’s no stranger to working with Fox, having created the action-crime drama Fastlane.
“The reboot will feature adrenaline-fueled rescues, tangled relationships, complicated chemistry, and beachside heroics that defined the original — now with an entirely new cast donning the show’s signature red swimsuits, contemporary trappings, tensions and challenges, and a renewed mission to protect Southern California’s shoreline,” reads the new show’s official description.
The original drama starred David Hasselhoff as Mitch Buchannon, Parker Stevenson as Craig Pomeroy, Shawn Weatherly as Jill Riley, Billy Warlock as Eddie Kramer, Pamela Anderson as C. J. Parker, Erika Eleniak as Shauni McClain, Peter Phelps as Trevor Cole, Jeremy Jackson as Hobie Buchannon, and Holly Gagnier as Gina Pomeroy. It ran on-air for eleven seasons on NBC. Due to its pop cultural success, it spawned a spin-off series, Baywatch Nights, three direct-to-video movies, and a 2017 film adaptation led by Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron.
