Starship Troopers Was Unexpected Hit
Denise Richards was one of the “it girls” of the 1990s thanks to her roles in Cruel Intentions and as a Bond girl in The World is Not Enough. She also starred in an unexpected sci-fi hit during that time frame. Along with Neil Patrick Harris, the actress got top billing in the 1997 film Starship Troopers.
It also starred rising soap stars Patrick Muldoon (Days of Our Lives) and Casper Van Dien (One Life to Live.) The movie bombed at the box office, but became a cult classic through word of mouth. It’s now widely regarded as one of the best sci-fi films of the 1990s.
Denise Richards Reunites With Co-Star, Teases New Project
Denise Richards and the Starship Troopers fandom suffered a heartbreaking loss in April when Patrick Muldoon died. He suffered a catastrophic heart attack at the young age of 57. The two former co-stars worked together several times since the 1997 movie.
She reunited with another Starship Troopers cast member and teased a new project. Denise Richards shared a video on Instagram of her in a car with Casper Van Dien. “We are working together for the first time since Starship Troopers. We’re not gonna say how long ago that was,” she shared.
Casper Van Dien joked that they worked together on Starship Troopers “a couple of days ago.” He added, “You were young. I was kind of old. We were very young. We still are.”
Denise Richards spilled that they were filming near Toronto, Canada. However, she didn’t reveal their upcoming project together. Hello! magazine reported that the secret project is a film called Key to Freedom, also starring 1980s teen heartthrob C. Thomas Howell.
Denise Richards and Casper Van Dien have reunited several times in the past few years. Most of the Starship Troopers cast make appearances at fan conventions. The former co-stars both attended Los Angeles Comic Con and the Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo in 2025.
