By now, we can safely say that any inanimate object can be the catalyst for an evil horror movie monster, but we can’t say we have seen one entirely based around a toilet. There are some low-budget gems like Ghoulies II and Poultrygeist that have comode scenes, but looking at the trailer for the upcoming Scared Shitless, they are taking it to the next level, and dare we say, we think this one is a pinch above the rest.
Directed by Vivieno Caldinelli, this self-funded indie gem is set to make its U.S. debut at Screamfest Horror Film Festival in Los Angeles, October 12.
Scared Shitless follows Don, a blue-collar plumber with a crass sense of humor, as he drags Sonny, his germophobic son, on a routine house call to help him overcome his fears. Little do they know, they’re about to face a plumber’s worst nightmare—a genetically engineered, blood-thirsty creature swimming through the pipes and killing tenants in increasingly grisly fashion. With the help of the night manager, Patricia, this unlikely trio must stop the monster from escaping into the city’s water system.
Although the plot might be a novel idea, it is the practical effects that stand out, at least in the trailer. The creature is designed by Canada’s Steve Kostanski (Psycho Goreman, The Void), and his idea was to blend two movie monsters into one: a Graboid and a Xenomorph.
The film isn’t long, it runs only 77 minutes so it should be dense with gore. Take a look at the trailer and let us know what you think.
