Deadpool 3 is in the works and unless you have been living under a rock, you know that the third film in the Marvel franchise will star Hugh Jackman in his return as Wolverine. If you recall, this took quite a bit of convincing by both Ryan Reynolds and Marvel. After saying “no” countless times, eventually Jackman agreed to return.
“How do I categorize it? Ten being really close, zero being the reality, we’re zero, we’re opposites, hate each other,” Jackman told The Empire Film Podcast. “I’m just talking from my perspective, Logan’s frustrated by him, wants to be a million miles away from him or wants to punch him in the head. Unfortunately, he can’t be a million miles away from him in this movie, so I’m probably going to punch him in the head a lot.”
This makes a lot of sense considering that Wolverine always hated Wade in the comics. It was always a very hate, hate relationship. The only times that Deadpool and Wolverine got along was when they would eviscerate baddies together.
One of the biggest complaints from fans has been that Wolverine died in Logan. And best of all the James Mangold-directed film sent Logan off respectfully and beautifully. This ended a 17-year run of Jackman playing the role of the renegade X-Men. However, it sounds like Jackman jumped back in at a place that actually fit the current run of Marvel films and their many multiverses.
“All because of this device [Multiverses] they have in the Marvel world of moving around timelines, now we can go back because, you know, it’s science, so I don’t have to screw with the Logan timeline, which was important to me. And I think probably to the fans too,”
This is also going to be the first time that Jackman is able to work with the Fiege half of Marvel. He has been caught in the Sony/Marvel limbo during his run as the character. With Disney’s Marvel purchase we are finally able to bring all characters across. So, this will most likely be an interesting reinvention of Logan. We can’t wait to see that compounded with the fact that we are going to see Wolverine and Deadpool together finally.
Deadpool 3 arrives in theaters beginning November 8, 2024.
