Netflix has long since established itself as the premier destination for crime programming. The streamer offers a diverse lineup of accurate crime content, along with a substantial amount of scripted programming that reenacts controversial cases from years past. This type of programming performs notoriously well for the streamer, often securing a place in the top 10 after its debut.
Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan have been quick to capitalize on that trend, partnering with the streamer to recreate the events behind several notorious cases in the scripted series Monster. Season one profiled Jeffrey Dahmer. Season two revisited the tragic case of Lyle and Erik Menendez. The program stands as a bona fide hit. The first season even sits as the most-watched horror show on Netflix and the fourth most-watched program overall. Now, some might argue that Stranger Things or Wednesday (which come in at number three and number one respectively) claim that distinction, but I would counter that both are more whimsical and fantasy-based, whereas Monster veers properly into full-fledged horror territory.
If you connected with the first two seasons of the show, you’ll likely be pleased to learn that a third season is on the way. The latest installment is titled Monster: The Ed Gein Story. As if that news wasn’t enough excitement for one day, we also have a brand new trailer for the upcoming season to share with you. Brace yourself, it’s pretty ominous.

This trailer absolutely gave me the creeps. It looks like the latest season is going to be a standout entry in the Monster series. Crimson Peak star Charlie Hunnam is almost unrecognizable as Gein. He’s off-putting and seems to have disappeared entirely into the role. If the trailer is any indication, this is going to be a performance that people talk about.
I have no doubt that I will be watching Monster: The Ed Gein Story when it debuts on Netflix on October 7th. The platform is releasing all eight episodes of the series’ third season at once. Knowing that, I suspect I will burn through them in record time.
