Do you love Stephen King as much as I do? Are you keen to have your day ruined? If you answered yes to both of the questions I just posed, I have a special treat in store for you. That’s right, dear reader. A Stephen King adaptation with a devastating ending that you cannot unsee is now available to stream on Prime Video. Hooray?
If you haven’t already guessed which adaptation I’m talking about, the picture in question is Frank Darabont‘s The Mist. Darabont penned the screen treatment for King’s novella, in addition to sitting at the helm of the project. The Mist is not Darabont’s first King adaptation, however. Not by a long shot. The filmmaker previously directed The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile. Not to mention, he also helmed a segment for the Nightshift Collection in 1994.
Given that Darabont has a successful history writing and directing adaptations of the bestselling author’s work, it probably shouldn’t be a surprise that The Mist is as effective as it is. The filmmaker clearly understands how to extract the essence of a King novel and translate it seamlessly to the screen. Many filmmakers have tried their hand at adapting King. Few, if any, have done so as effectively as Frank Darabont.

The setup for this devastating Stephen King adaptation goes like this:
After a powerful storm damages their Maine home, David Drayton (Jane) and his young son head into town to gather food and supplies. Soon afterward, a thick fog rolls in and engulfs the town, trapping the Draytons and others in the grocery store. Terror mounts as deadly creatures reveal themselves outside, but that may be nothing compared to the threat within, where a zealot (Harden) calls for a sacrifice.
