The Last of Us was huge hit for HBO. The video-turned-apocalyptic series was a weekly punch in the feels. Each episode seemed to be more cutting than the last and man did those cuts go deep.
One of the most emotional episodes was a bottle episode featuring Bill and Frank. While Mazin says that he may bring back select characters to tell a story within the timeline in which they were alive, he won’t be beating a dead horse.
“There’s always a chance for everything. With us you never know, and we obviously don’t confine ourselves by timelines. People who are dead sometimes reappear and sometimes we meet people that we didn’t even know and then we find out that they are somebody,” Mazin stated. “What you won’t see is, for instance, another very special episode with Bill and Frank, we aren’t going to milk it. When we do something that we think is beautiful, we let it be as it is and find other beautiful things to do.”
So, as much as fans did love Frank and Bill it looks like there won’t be any more time spent with either character.
Mazin also says that a lot of the second season will be made up of elements from The Last of Us 2 game. Since the sequel had a story that was at least twice as long as the first time, it will take up a season or two.
The synopsis for The Last of Us went like this:
After a global pandemic destroys civilization, a hardened survivor takes charge of a 14-year-old girl who may be humanity’s last hope. Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian, Wonder Woman 1984) and Bella Ramsey (HBO’s His Dark Materials and Game of Thrones) star as Joel and Ellie.
