Next year, Chris Hemsworth is set to star in Furiosa, the prequel to Mad Max: Fury Road. Hemsworth entered the shoot “exhausted” due to his busy schedule, but thanks to George Miller, it became the “best experience” of his career.
“Week one of rehearsals with [Miller], all of a sudden it was this reigniting of my creative energy,” Hemsworth told British GQ. “By far the best experience of my career, and something I feel the most proud of. It made me think, the work isn’t what’s exhausting, it’s what kind of work it is, and how invested I am in it and if it is challenging in the right ways.”
What to Expect in Furiosa?
Anya Taylor-Joy stars as Imperator Furiosa, the fearless war captain first played by Charlize Theron in Mad Max: Fury Road. Taylor-Joy will play a younger version of the character in Furiosa. Hemsworth stars as the villainous Warlord Dementus. Hemsworth looked unrecognizable on set as he sported long hair, nose prosthetics, and a beard.
Besides Taylor-Joy and Hemsworth, the ensemble includes Tom Burke, Angus Sampson, Nathan Jones, Daniel Webber, Lachy Hulme, and Quaden Bayles.
“As the world fell, young Furiosa is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus,” the official synopsis reads. “Sweeping through the Wasteland they come across the Citadel presided over by The Immortan Joe. While the two Tyrants war for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials as she puts together the means to find her way home.”
Miller directs Furiosa from a screenplay he co-wrote with Nico Lathouris. Miller will co-produce the film alongside his producing partner, Doug Mitchell. Miller’s last Mad Max film, Fury Road, received universal acclaim, winning six Oscars at the 88th Academy Awards.
