Franchise director Christian Gudegast opened up about the possibility of Lionsgate greenlighting Den of Thieves 3 after more than a week since the theatrical release of Den of Thieves 2: Pantera. So far, the Gerard Butler-led sequel has already garnered a worldwide gross of over $32 million at the box office. It currently has a 61% Tomatometer rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which is higher than the first installment.
What did the director say about Den of Thieves 3?
During a recent interview, when asked about his potential pitch for a Den of Thieves threequel, Gudegast confirmed that they have actually already pitched the project to Lionsgate. At the moment, further details about his pitch are still under wraps, but it seems like things are looking good for the project.
“It’s already pitched. It’s already done. We’re ready to go,” Gudegast said (via The Hollywood Reporter). “We’re feeling very good about it.”
Den of Thieves 2: Pantera was written and directed by Christian Gudegast, who reportedly spent time with investigators and notorious thieves in order to prepare for the sequel. The cast members include O’Shea Jackson Jr., Evin Ahmad, Meadow Williams, Salvatore Esposito, Swen Temmel, Michael Bisping, Orli Shuka, Cristian Solimeno, and more. The project was first announced in 2018 following the first film’s theatrical release, which earned a worldwide gross of $80 million at the box office. The sequel was produced by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, along with returning producers Tucker Tooley and Alan Siegel. Diamond Films’ Meadow Williams is also executive producing along with Glenn Feig.
“Big Nick is back on the hunt in Europe and closing in on Donnie (Jackson), who is embroiled in the treacherous and unpredictable world of diamond thieves and the infamous Panther mafia, as they plot a massive heist of the world’s largest diamond exchange,” reads the official synopsis.
