The recent release of The Matrix 5 trailer titled The Matrix 5: Resurgence has sparked debate about its authenticity. The Matrix trailer hints at a return to the well-known Matrix saga, leaving fans to wonder if it’s a direct sequel to the existing films or a prequel delving into the origins of the Matrix universe.
Here we will discern if the trailer of Matrix 5 is fake or real.
Is The Matrix 5: Resurgence movie trailer real or fake?
The online trailer titled “The Matrix 5: Resurgence” is fake and fan-made.
Released on July 5, it has amassed almost 500,000 views at the moment of writing. But, the description of the following trailer confirms its legitimacy.
Released by the Darth Trailer YouTube channel, which is known for its concept trailers, The Matrix 5 trailer is another one of those. It uses clips from previous films. It uses footage from past Matrix movies and other sci-fi features including Keanu Reeves’ Replicas and Simu Liu’s Simulant. But none of these actors are confirmed to appear in The Matrix 5.
Earlier, Warner Bros. formally announced the development of Matrix 5, signifying a noteworthy return for the Sci-Fi franchise. But the film is yet to begin its casting process. Furthermore, “Resurgence” isn’t its confirmed title as a new title is yet to be announced.
As per Deadline, the film is in development with Drew Goddard crafting the narrative. While plot specifics remain under wraps, Jesse Ehrman, president of production at Warner Bros. Motion Pictures, has teased that the forthcoming story will expand the franchise’s fantastical world while honoring the core elements that fueled its initial triumph.
Is Drew Goddard’s The Matrix 5 a reboot, prequel or sequel?
There is no official word by Warner Bros. and the creatives on whether The Matrix 5 will be a reboot, a prequel, or a sequel.
According to Variety, while a reboot of The Matrix franchise could offer a way to sidestep the box office disappointment of The Matrix Resurrections (grossing only $157 million worldwide), a prequel delving into the unexplored history of the Matrix universe might hold greater potential.
The Architect’s claims about the past versions of the Matrix leave room for multiple prequel stories. So, one or more prequels could breathe new life into the film’s intricate universe by exploring its backstory with a new lead.
As per another Variety report, a Matrix 5 sequel to Resurrections remains a possibility given the survival of Neo (Keanu Reeves) and Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss). However, the return of the actors themselves is yet to be confirmed.
The studio could sidestep from the original cast to start afresh. But if The Matrix 5 turns out to be a semi-sequel. Goddard and Co could still have Reeves, Moss, and other original franchise actors return in a limited capacity to bolster a roster filled with other actors. At the moment of writing, all narrative possibilities are open.
