James Gunn Gives Exciting Update on DCU The Brave and the Bold Movie

James Gunn has given an exciting update about the Batman DCU movie, The Brave and the Bold.

The Brave and the Bold was one of many projects that was announced in January 2023 as being part of the first chapter of Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU, titled Gods and Monsters. The Flash’s Andy Muschietti has been tapped to direct the movie, though there haven’t been many updates on the project in recent months.

Now, however, Gunn has shared an update on the project that suggests it could get off the ground running in the very near future.

What did James Gunn say about Batman and The Brave and the Bold?

Gunn told Rolling Stone that the Dark Knight character is his “biggest issue in all of DC right now.” He confirmed that he’s not writing The Brave and the Bold, but he is working with the writer to try to “get it right” because the character is “incredibly important to DC.”

At this time, Gunn said his biggest priorities are “finishing our Wonder Woman and our Batman scripts.”

He further shared, “Batman has to have a reason for existing, right? So Batman can’t just be ‘Oh, we’re making a Batman movie because Batman’s the biggest character in all of Warner Bros.,’ which he is. But because there’s a need for him in the DCU, and a need that he’s not exactly the same as Matt [Reeves’] Batman. But yet he’s not a campy Batman. I’m not interested in that. I’m not interested in a funny, campy Batman, really. So we’re dealing with that. I think I have a way in, by the way. I think I really know what it’s — I just am dealing with the writer to make sure that we can make it a reality.”
