The official Look Back U.S. release date has been set for North American territories. GKIDS announced it has acquired both the theatrical and home release rights for the upcoming film.
What is the Look Back U.S. release date?
The Look Back release date has been set for October 4, 2024, when the film will arrive in theaters nationwide in its original Japanese language. The movie is based on the critically acclaimed original manga by best-selling author Tatsuki Fujimoto (Chainsaw Man), and was directed by Kiyotaka Oshiyama.

Originally released earlier this year in Japan, Look Back was a massive success overseas. The film opened on over 100 screens and reached over 1 billion yen ($6.9 million) at the box office, and has seen an expanded run in Japan announced as a result of its successful premiere. The film is also the first feature production from Studio Durian, a company founded by Oshiyama. Prior to his work on Look Back, Oshiyama was a Key Animator on Hayao Miyazaki’s The Boy and the Heron, and also worked on the anime adaptation of Chainsaw Man.
“Popular, outgoing Fujino is celebrated by her classmates for her funny comics in the class newspaper,” reads the official synopsis for the film. “One day, her teacher asks her to share the space with Kyomoto, a truant recluse whose beautiful artwork sparks a competitive fervor in Fujino. What starts as jealousy transforms when Fujino realizes their shared passion for drawing.”
