A new romantic comedy movie from Netflix, based on the novel, People We Meet on Vacation, has debuted with a robust Rotten Tomatoes score. The film is helmed by Brett Haley and features Tom Blyth and Emily Bader in the lead roles. The book became both a New York Times and an IndieBound bestseller and received positive reviews from critics.

Netflix’s People We Meet on Vacation has received an 88% critical score on Rotten Tomatoes as of writing. Meanwhile, Metacritic has given the film a Metascore of 53, which indicates “mixed or average” reception.

People We Meet on Vacation has received positive reviews from critics. Gabriella Geisinger of Digital Spy noted that fans wouldn’t “cry bucketloads” after seeing the film, but will feel “buoyed by the beautiful places and beautiful people and an escape into a world in which the painful process of falling in love does end actually in happiness.”

Meanwhile, Tessa Smith of Mama’s Geeky praised lead actors Tom Blyth and Emily Bader’s performances and chemistry and called the film “the epitome of a great romantic comedy.” She also praised the supporting cast’s performances and the film’s storytelling structure.

Variety‘s Guy Lodge wrote in his review, “What keeps things diverting, and sometimes even interesting, is the genuine but necessarily tentative chemistry between its stars, one staging an all-out charm offensive and the other projecting a flintier allure.”

The Hollywood Reporter‘s Angie Han noted that although the film may not be “anyone’s idea of a forever home,” it was “a lovely place to visit for a few lazy hours.”

Brett Haley directed People We Meet on Vacation from Yulin Kuang, Amos Vernon, and Nunzio Randazzo’s screenplay. Marty Bowen, Wyck Godfrey, and Isaac Klausner produced the film. In addition to Tom Blyth and Emily Bader, the film stars Sarah Catherine Hook, Lucien Laviscount, Lukas Gage, Miles Heizer, and Jameela Jamil, among many others.
