The White Lotus star Jason Isaacs dished on his “very low” salary for Mike White’s iconic HBO show. The actor noted that the remuneration hardly had any influence, as he would have also “paid” to be in it.
Actor Jason Isaacs shared his thoughts about his remuneration for The White Lotus in a new interview. While talking to Vulture, the Emmy-nominated actor was asked about the $40,000 salary per episode that every actor received.
Isaacs was surprised to know that the remuneration for The White Lotus is “public knowledge.” However, he reflected on the “very low price” and how it did not have any influence on him.
The Harry Potter alum noted, “Generally actors don’t talk about pay in public because it’s ridiculously disproportionate to what we do — putting on makeup and funny voices — and just upsets the public. But compared to what people normally get paid for big television shows, that’s a very low price.”
However, the “low” salary barely played a role, Isaacs explained. “The fact is, we would have paid to be in it. We probably would have given a body part.” He also shared his feelings about being a “senior” actor and getting the same remuneration as younger actors. The Star Trek: Discovery star said, “Do I mind that I wasn’t paid more than other people? I never work for money.”
The actor further spoke about his spendings. “People will think I have huge stockpiles of money but sadly, what I’ve done rather immaturely is expand my outgoings to match my incomings and pretty much spent everything I’ve earned over the years.”
During the interview, Isaacs also gushed over his longtime life partner, Emma Hewitt. The couple, who started dating in the 80s, tied the knot in 2001. Speaking of his longtime romance, the star disclosed that the duo broke up for a while in their “seven-year itch” phase.
However, Hewitt has “stuck around” even when Isaacs was at his lowest. The actor revealed, “She’s the only one who saw how dark I was. And she stuck around, and thank God she did.”
