While the current track has kept the audience hooked, there is some curiosity surging regarding another character. It is about Maggie Horton, played by Suzanne Rogers, who’d taken a temporary exit from the show and later returned. So, why did Suzzane Rogers leave Days of Our Lives?
Here is everything you need to know about the character in the soap opera.
Why did Suzanne Rogers’ Maggie Horton leave Days of Our Lives?
Suzanne Rogers’ Maggie Horton left Days of Our Lives due to health concerns. Rogers joined the series in 1973 but ended up quitting the show in 1984 as she was diagnosed with Myasthenia Gravis. It is a rare disease that affected her facial muscles and she started falling weak due to the prescribed medicine. Thus, the makers decided to write off Maggie’s character by sending her off to New York following her divorce from her husband.
After a year, Rogers returned to the series and Maggie tied the knot with Mickey. Additionally, Rogers recommended the makers to depict her character suffering from Myasthenia Gravis to spread awareness about the disease. In 1995, she went into remission and continued to be part of the series.
In addition, Horton has faced numerous ups and downs in Days of Our Lives. She was paralyzed following a childhood accident but eventually recovered. Maggie’s relationship with Mickey Horton is one of the significant plot points in the show. She also has a romance with Don when she presumes Mickey to be dead after his abduction. However, the couple eventually reunited after clearing their differences.
In 2010, Mickey passed away due to a heart attack, and a year later, she decided to move on with Victor Kirisakis. She becomes the head of the Horton family following Alice’s tragic death. Currently, Maggie continues to balance her priorities between the Hortons and Kirisakis.
Rogers is currently the longest-serving star on Days of Our Lives, having played the role for several decades.
