The closing moments of Shrinking Season 3 Episode 4 have led viewers to believe that Harrison Ford, who plays Paul, is leaving the show. The veteran actor has been a core part of the show since its premiere three years ago. However, Paul’s confession has left the character’s fate in uncertainty.
Here are all the details.

Is Paul retiring and Harrison Ford leaving Shrinking after Season 3?
While Shrinking has delivered a brilliant mix of comedy and emotional moments, the recent episode has left the audience concerned about a fan-favorite character’s fate on the show. The Oscar-nominated actor, Harrison Ford, portrays Dr. Paul Rhoades, a charming, wise, and senior therapist with Parkinson’s disease.
In the final moments of Season 3 Episode 4, titled “The Field,” Jimmy, played by Jason Segel, finds Paul in his office, sitting on his chair with the lights turned off. When he approaches Paul and asks how his first day back was, Paul says that it was great. But he then says it’s time for him to “stop being a therapist.” Paul reasons that it took “going away and coming back” to realize it, and says, “It’s time, Jimmy.”
Although it is a major concern, Paul also said he needs time to notify his patients and that it would take “months to wind down the practice.” So, viewers can expect the Indiana Jones star to continue playing the role for at least a few more episodes. Furthermore, the story could also follow the character outside his practice, keeping him part of the series.
Currently, there is no official information from the showrunners or Ford about leaving. And since Season 4 is already in development, the Star Wars alum may likely continue to play the role.
Interestingly, in a 2025 interview, he said he receives “satisfaction and pleasure” from working on the show and from the people involved. That could also be a good sign that he may return for the next season.
