Composer Randy Edelman doesn’t have a sword or shield but he is still fascinating and incredibly intricate. His music is written in the language of dreams, in that long moment before we wake in a single flash. Randy’s music is silver, and azure, cinnamon, and indigo veined with gold and lapis lazuli.
With the piano as his weapon of choice, and the lyrics his shield, his music escapes from ….and then returns to ….like a fantasy. Consider a composition like his “A Weekend in New England” inviting you to a gorgeous fantasy vacation by the coast with the rocky shores and the cerulean waters and silver waves dancing upon the sandy beach. Or his “Italian Star” sailing down the Grand Canal with the fiery colors of sunset’s haze. People listen to music to find the colors and the romance once again.
Much of the maestro’s music is shrouded in fantasy and the whimsical creations of the over one hundred motion picture and television soundtracks he has designed inclusive of “Dragonheart”, “My Cousin Vinny”, “Kindergarten Cop”, “While You were Sleeping”, “Beethoven”, “The Mask”, Ghostbusters ll”, “The Indian in the Cupboard”, “The Mummy”, “Angels in the Outfield”, “Anaconda”, “MacGyver” and more. Others stem from the seeds of reality such as “Gettysburg”, “The Bruce Lee Story”, and “Last of the Mohicans” of which earned him a Golden Globe nomination.
Regardless of your personal taste in films Randy will share medleys of those films as well as songs he’s written that were covered by some of the most elite artists including Patti LaBelle, Shirley Bassey (Isn’t it a Shame), Barry Manilow (A Weekend in New England), Willie Nelson (Down in the Everglades), Dionne Warwick and Nancy Wilson (The Laughter and the Tears), Olivia, Newton-John (If Love is Real), Kool and the Gang (Amore Amore), Nelly (My Place),The Carpenters (You), Blood, Sweat &Tears (Blue Street), Jackie DeShannon (Let the Sailors Dance), Bing Crosby (The Woman on Your Arm), Grandmaster Melle Mel (Collaboration of Everything is Possible), and more.
There is something about Randy’s music that speaks to something deep within us, but aside from that he adds his backstage stories of what the world has been to him, in dark places and in the light. He carves his name in your hearts as he shares the soundscapes of his illustrious career present, past and future, before audiences at sold out performances….
