Sunny Day Real Estate has announced a 2022 tour of North America, the band’s first in more than a decade. The tour, which includes a stop at Riot Fest in Chicago, begins in Kansas in mid-September. The Appleseed Cast are set to open. Check out the full list of dates below.
The tour will feature original members Jeremy Enigk, Dan Hoerner, and William Goldsmith, according to a press release. Bassist Nate Mendel, currently a member of Foo Fighters, will not be on the tour; another of the band’s former bassists, Joe Skyward, died of prostate cancer in 2016.
Sunny Day Real Estate released a track titled “Lipton Witch” on a split with Circa Survive in 2014, but have yet to announce a follow-up to 2000’s The Rising Tide. They’d previously revealed that a new album was underway in 2010, with Mendel as part of the reunited group. In 2018, however, Goldsmith—who had also been a member of Foo Fighters before leaving acrimoniously in 1997—said that Dave Grohl had blocked the record’s completion. Mendel later refuted Goldsmith’s claims, with Goldsmith eventually conceding that Grohl was not single-handedly to blame for the LP being shelved.
