In news that will make you bitterly aware of the passage of time, the actor who played the “sun baby” in Teletubbies is pregnant with a sun baby of her own.
Jessica Smith was the face of the omnipresent sun baby during Teletubbies’ original run from 1997 to 2001. She shared the news that she was expecting her first child in an Instagram post Tuesday (October 10th), posting a photo of her ultrasound scans with the caption: “When two becomes three.”
Now 27 years old, Smith is well in the age window where older family members start asking about babies. We have plenty of follow-up questions for her and the father that they’re likely already tired of hearing, like: Will the new baby take over the roll of “sun baby” in future Teletubbies reboots? Will the new baby be named after one of those antennae’d, screen-bellied humanoids? How much screen time will this new baby be allowed per day? And is Smith using her residual checks to cover the cost of child-rearing?
Anyway, congratulations to the parents-to-be! See Smith’s announcement post below.
Last year, Netflix rebooted Teletubbies with narration from Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt star Titus Burgess.
