Anne Hathaway is owning up to her mistakes!
Remember that interviewer who almost quit over a terrible interview with Blake Lively back in the day?? Well, she also had a less-than-ideal chat with the Devil Wears Prada star in 2012. And after calling out the actress for her rude and “cringe” behavior at the time, she just received a really kind apology!

Here’s the deal. Entertainment reporter Kjersti Flaa took to her TikTok earlier this week to share a throwback interview with Anne while the superstar was promoting Lès Miserables. In the original clip first published to YouTube on Saturday, Kjersti sits down with the actress and starts by sharing:
“I was going to sing the question to you and you can sing back the answer.”
She clearly thought it would be a fun and unique way to go about the interview. And considering it was a musical, it was fitting! While the other actors she chatted with, such as Hugh Jackman, were game to do the singing thing, Anne was NOT having it! She bluntly responded:
“Well, I won’t be doing that, but you’re more than welcome to sing.”
Damn! Awkward!!!
During her YouTube reflection, Kjersti acknowledged that her singing bit may not have been her best idea, but pointed out:
“Maybe it was too much to ask her to sing back. But she could have been nice for the rest of the interview. It’s just like, I was just sitting there trying to make it a little more fun for everyone. And she wasn’t having it. And then she was, you know, annoyed with me for the rest of the time.”
That was obvious! In the clip, Flaa continued on with her questioning, at one point wondering, “Do you remember your first crush?” Then, she asked Anne if she thought that “love was more passionate” during the time the film takes place. Sadly, with both of those question, she merely got one-word answers back. Anne simply said:
“No.”
Ouch!

The Idea of You star was not interested AT ALL!!! And guess what?? Apparently, “a representative from the studio” that made the musical movie also told her to “take [the interview] down” at the time, she revealed:
“He was like, ‘You know, if you, if people are going to see that, you might be blacklisted.’ And I was like, ‘Okay.’ Basically, because she wasn’t very nice. Which I’ve talked about before, when celebrities are not nice, it’s always the journalist’s fault.”
Jeez!!!
They knew it was a bad look! Interestingly, the journalist did mention that she met Anne after this and she was “very sweet.” So, she knew it must’ve been a bad day, but was still a little salty about it!
Look, we get that when celebs are doing press like this, they are often fielding hundreds of back-to-back questions a day. It’s exhausting — and Anne certainly had a right to say no to the singing if it made her uncomfortable! But to give this woman — who’s simply trying to do her job AND help the film perform better at the box office — such short answers is rude!
But there’s good news here — Anne totally knows that! In a rare move, The Princess Diaries lead apologized to the interviewer in a heartfelt and honest letter! Returning to social media on Tuesday, Kjersti revealed she almost immediately received an email from the 41-year-old’s rep with a message directly from the actress. Kjersti shared:
“I have to say, I was pretty shocked. I had not expected her to reach out to me at all. I thought she was never going to even see that video, but she did and she did something pretty amazing.”
In the “long email,” Anne explained that she was going through a lot at that time and apologized “for giving [her] an awful interview.” Kjersti went on:
“[Hathaway’s apology] was so touching to me. Just talking about it makes me almost teary eyed. I was just so grateful that she did that.”
Aw!!!
As for what Anne said, she’s keeping that private, noting:
“It was a very personal note and we decided that I wouldn’t share exactly what was in the email, but I just wanted to share with you guys what she did because I thought that was just so amazing.”
It really is very kind! Everybody has their bad moments, but to be so willing to admit her wrongs says a lot about Anne! And this won’t be the last you see of these ladies either! The content creator shared:
“I said, ‘If you ever want to sit down and talk about it, I’m here.’ And she invited me to interview her for her next movie that’s coming out in May.”
Nice!
Reflecting on the incident, the reporter concluded by seemingly throwing some shade at the It Ends With Us star — who she previously claimed NEVER apologized for her “little bump” jab (when the reporter was not and could not get pregnant). The Norwegian journalist concluded:
“I have so much respect for people who own up to their mistakes and say they’re sorry. Sorry is such a powerful word. […] It was a long time ago now, I have no hard feelings about it.”
Good to see one of these stories has a happy ending!
