Any love fans started to have for Ethan Slater during the Wicked press tour went out the window the second his ex-wife’s essay on their divorce dropped!
This week, Dr. Lilly Jay opened up in an essay for New York Magazine‘s newsletter One Great Story about her high school sweetheart leaving her for one of the most famous pop stars in the world after giving birth to their son — Ariana Grande. Not only that, but she delved into the frustrating impact it had on her career as a psychologist. She writes at one point:
“As for me, days with my son are sunny. Days when I can’t escape the promotion of a movie associated with the saddest days of my life are darker. No one gets married thinking they’ll get divorced, in the same way we don’t board a plane expecting to crash. But I really never thought I would get divorced. Especially not just after giving birth to my first child and especially not in the shadow of my husband’s new relationship with a celebrity.”

Oof. The essay is an amazing but heartbreaking account of what happened. You can read it HERE. And the piece has tugged at the heartstrings of many social media users. They feel for Lilly after everything she went through and are PISSED at Ethan… again! Fans have stormed X (Twitter) this past week to bash the Broadway star, writing:
“Ethan slater IS an horrible person idk why some of y’all defending him and im sorry but theres no man on earth, especially NOT that one who’s worth any of this.”
“Did not know lily jay was a therapist..her article is so well written and ethan slater is trash and i hope ariana wakes up and realizes that a man who leaves his post partum wife is not a forever kinda person lol.”
“Ethan Slater is the worst type of person. His relationship with Ariana will be over within a year, promise.”
“Ethan slater is a truly horrible person for what he put his ex wife through.”
“Ethan slater ruined his own marriage!! you can’t wreck a home from the outside, however i wish ariana had been a little more wiser.”
“Ethan Slater’s actions are deeply disappointing and disrespectful to his wife, especially after all she’s been through.”
“That piece from ethan slater’s ex wife is a devastating read wow.”
