Below Deck Down Under’s Captain Jason Chambers is aware of those Heather Gay hookup rumors — and is using BravoCon 2025 to set the record straight.
“We had a break for a year on BravoCon — didn’t think we’re going to go back there,” Captain Jason exclusively told Us Weekly while walking this year’s BravoCon red carpet in Las Vegas on Friday, November 14.
“We came straight back here,” he continued. “Look, she knows I get embarrassed, and she knows I’m a bit sarcastic, too. And I know her humor and her wit, and I think she saw a door open and she went for it. And I respect that, because she knows she’s just getting, you know, she’s making me quirky, a little irky, almost.”
He added, “It’s been fun. I like. It’s just friendship, and it’s really fun.”
For the woefully uninitiated, The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star organized a yacht trip to the island of Canouan for the series’ cast in an October 28 crossover event. During a drunken exchange with costar Britani Bateman, Heather claimed she had previously slept with the Australian captain.
“You’re canoodling with Jason. He’s not interested in me,” Britani, who seemed interested in the captain earlier in the episode, told Heather.
“I know, but Jason and I are friends,” Heather responded. “We have a history. We’ve f***ed around before. It’s like, there’s nothing there.”
When asked to explain exactly what she meant by “f***ed around,” Heather simply clarified that the pair are friends.
“We’re friends,” she said. “I’m saying we’re friends, so there’s latitude.”
After sobering up, Heather seemed shocked by her own confession.
“I said that?” Heather told producers in a far more sober confessional. “Serious face? You can’t use that. I don’t know why I said that to her. Delete. Delete.”

Despite the hookup rumor, Captain Jason told Us that he’s more than willing to host another Real Housewives franchise on a future yacht excursion.
“I think the Dubai people, the Housewives of Dubai, would be great, you know?” he told Us on Friday of another possible crossover event. “I think their expectations and critiquing would be up there. You know, I think they would want the highest service. And we like to be critiqued. We like to get better.”
Captain Jason also told Us that he would absolutely invite the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City women back on board, drunken shenanigans and all.

“That’s the best thing about yachting — you work with [a] crew. You become friends. I’ve worked with all the Housewives of Salt Lake City, and we’re all great friends,” he explained. “And BravoCon is a great way for us to reconnect again. I’ve had a great time, even on day one, meeting them all again.”
While Captain Jason is more than willing to work with The Real Housewives again, he’s also looking forward to the new season of Below Deck Down Under despite some of his crew members previously centering themselves in the show’s narrative.
“The department heads were really the center of the whole thing when they shouldn’t be,” he told Us of last season. “So this season, we, you know, we’re lucky enough to bring three other great, experienced heads of department together and you’ll see absolutely no issues at all. They’re so great, and their experience and professionalism is awesome.”
He continued. “We got it put together. It’s a great season.”
