There are cracks all over: Ed Sheeran has just announced the pre-order of his upcoming project and the world is only going through the most chaotic end. For Twitter from this singer: “Play.” There was a link to pre-order as well. The replies! oh! such madness, look.

First-ever tweet really reads: ‘We’re pressing Play. Pre-order now! but the replied words? Craziest! One person replying Me! tweeted: ‘I’d rather sh!t in my hands then clap, thanks.’ So rude, really. A second username: 𝕄𝕚𝕤𝕥𝕖𝕣_𝕂. ‘We Are Not Clicked Play: #DontClickPlayOnAvaMax #DontClickPlay,’ replied. A whole that doesn’t click play-more confusingly humorous.
Then there is the really huge drama about the cover art. A user named GOD SAID: what was that? went on to completely beg Ed saying, ‘This cover is so ugly please change it or make a deluxe edition with an alternative pls.’ Ouch. Below that reply, the thread started spiralling into Portuguese with someone saying ‘I’m embarrassed to buy this album or share it with this terrible cover.’ Another hit back, ‘Friend, I’ll be acting crazy and pretending it’s a camp!’ Whatever that might mean. A nice chaos and honestly it’s funny.
Oh, wait. Not all are haters. Some fans are totally there. Lydia, a fan of 12 years, tweeted: ‘I’m finally getting my first signed Ed item!! EEEK.’ Another one by the name of cris fell into the trap of the pre-order, saying, ‘Can’t wait to hear Sapphire.’ Not last, but there’s also Mick Kelly, calling the pink vinyl ‘collector’s art.’ Not all dark negativity, hence; just a lot of opinions.
Maybe the strangest thing? the ‘Don’t Click Play’ trend. A lot of the replies were echoes of this, and some even tagged other artists, like Ava Max. It could be any number of the above, or something else entirely. Either way, the talking’s gone off: ‘WE’RE PRESSING SKIP!!!! #DONTCLICKPLAY.’ Like, okay, chill, dude.
Some other fans have yet to find a way to scrape together pennies for the preorder. Arina tweeted, ‘I’M WAITING FOR MONEY TO BE ABLE TO PREORDER I want polaroid soooo much.’ Relatable. Others, like Laura, are hopeful but not committed yet: ‘Hoping to order soon.’ And then there is this random ‘Amazing Azizam’ from Ardavan, which means ‘Amazing dear’ in Persian. Sweet but random.

What’s the general thought? Ed Sheeran’s fanbase has it all: all or nothing people, fans who just state their mind, or drama followers. Pre-order going live, reactions all over: that makes it what it is worth being alive on the Internet. This time around, regardless of the side one belongs to, for sure, the people do care. A lot. Whether that is good or bad rests on opinions, but surely, it won’t be boring.
