Jeff Garcia Dead: Nickelodeon’s ‘Jimmy Neutron’ Actor Was 50

Jeff Garcia — a voice actor from Nickelodeon’s hit movie Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius and its TV spinoffs — has died at age 50.

TMZ reported that Garcia died on Wednesday, December 10, at a Southern California hospital after his family made the decision to pull him off life support. He was reportedly surrounded by friends and family at the time of his death.

According to the outlet, Garcia suffered a brain aneurysm this past spring and hit his head in a fall. While he recovered from both head injuries, Garcia reportedly suffered a stroke several weeks ago.

The situation got worse when Garcia was hospitalized for pneumonia in November, but after being discharged, he returned for treatment on Monday, December 8, because he had trouble breathing. TMZ reported that Garcia’s lung collapsed on Tuesday, December 9, and his family ultimately made the decision to shut off his life support later that night.

Sheen had a near 35-year career as a stand-up comedian and voice actor. His most notable role was portraying the loveably hyperactive Sheen Estévez in the 2001 animated blockbuster Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius. He reprised the character in multiple Nickelodeon spinoff shows, including his own Planet Sheen, which aired a single season on the cable channel between 2010 and 2013.

During an appearance on the “Reza Rifts” podcast in February 2024, Garcia reflected on
the legacy of Jimmy Neutron years after Nickelodeon stopped making new episodes.

“We haven’t taped in like two or three years,” he explained. “Kids can watch cartoons and they can watch the same thing over and over again — [adults] can’t. What happens is when the kids have watched it over and over again, they grow up and start watching shows [for older ages]. A new generation comes in and they rerun them again.”

Garcia went on, “Jimmy Neutron just aired like 20 episodes the other day and people were asking me, ‘Are you doing it again?’ I was like, ‘No, those are the ones we taped in 2005!’”

His prolific voice acting career also included playing Pip the Mouse in 2006 animated hit Barnyard, as well as its TV spinoff Back at the Barnyard for Nickelodeon. He later lent his voice to blockbusters such as Happy Feet, both Rio movies and the big-screen version of Marmaduke.

Fans responded to news of Garcia’s death by reflecting on the many childhood memories his animation work had left them with.

“Really Saddened to learn about the passing of Jeff Garcia, the iconic voice actor behind Sheen Estevez from Jimmy Neutron & Pip from Barnyard/Back at the Barnyard,” one fan wrote via X on Wednesday. “He brought so much laughter to everyone who grew up watching those shows and he will be missed.”

Another added, “Rest In Peace Jeff Garcia thank you for bringing to life one of the most underrated funny characters of the 2000’s [in Sheen Estevez].”

“Rest in peace, Jeff Garcia. No one can replace you as Sheen,” a fan insisted.

Fellow comedian Adam Hunter remembered Garcia by tweeting: “RIP Jeff Garcia. Gone way too soon. Such a talented comedian. One of the best.”

Aside from his voice acting work, Garcia was also an accomplished comedian who performed at iconic venues like the Laugh Factory in Los Angeles. The Laugh Factory posted a tribute to Garcia on its marquee following his death.

“Jeff’s a comedian who needs to be remembered,” Laugh Factory owner Jamie Masada told TMZ on Wednesday.

He was married to Lisa Garcia from 2002 to 2013. They shared two children: Savannah and Joseph.
