With its girth vanishing in the moments of fading away into existence, Miley Cyrus has just dropped her newest track, “More To Lose.” The singer exercised her own free will on how to announce the song via a shock and awe tweet: “MORE TO LOSE. OUT NOW.” And then there was the link for the song. Classic Cyrus-un-Mileying an Italian career-the setting-up for weeks or months of teasing; instead, bam, here, new music, deal with it.

Seems like the initial reactions are strongly tugging at everybody’s emo button. @twjlightzone called it “a masterpiece. a hit” which… is an awful lot of praise but also kind of vague? Like could we please have a Janet explain what makes it a masterpiece? Meanwhile, @YozzaOfficial said, “Beautiful but heartaching at same time,” which seems just about right, because when has Miley really made a song straight up without a little bait of acute emotional damage?
@radical0ptimism waltzed in to declare: “no one gaf.” In fact, I say: let it be happiest times for other people; can we not? And then @antoxlipa returned: “It’s flopping hard bestie,” and it really does feel a tad premature now, considering how it was five minutes into being out… but, okay.
The emotional reactions brought forth by true supporters, however, went something like this: @yeswhaleswiftie: “THAT TEAR EARNED ITS CHECK CAUSE WOW,” presumably in reference to some intense crying during the music video. And @bb_apes admitted, “trying to stop listening to it on repeat but I can’t,” which is–honestly–the highest compliment one could give to a new song.
International-accented reactions included: @hswiftley offered: “Te quiero, la canción es hermosa.” And @boundtomc: “Cada día me reafirmas que eres la artista de mi vida.” Ahh.
Some responses just went all out on creativity. @medyasosyalii went full poet with a big flowery comment about “spring atmosphere,” “rose-colored clouds,” and frankly, I’m not sure how that concretely hooks in with the song, but credit for effort.
The song seems to hit really close to home with its listeners, some putting it in relation with Miley’s past releases. @marvalfan199: “it reminds me of the can’t be tamed album,” which is an interesting thought because that was her rebellious phase and this seems more vulnerable-but hey, art is subjective.
Then came the thirst classics, like from @dan26022530: “Pan down,” which…please sir, this is Wendy’s. And @Jaqueli26260443 pops up with a strange comment about Miley’s parents: “Billy e tish juntos” (Billy and Tish together).
General consensus: Miley did another raw and emotional song that tugs at the heartstrings in the way she’s always done. For some folks who’d already assume it’s a win for her, whether or not it goes on to top charts remains to be seen.
What gets interesting is observing how fast people are so eager to project their own narratives onto the track. Everyone hears something different: there’s a heartbreak, some resilience, or a heavy radio tune to ride the car. This is what Miley’s music does-especially, she becomes whatever the listener needs in that very moment.
While Miley keeps riding the wave of success from her Endless Summer Vacation album with hits like Flowers, she definitely feels creatively alive right now, making material that feels personal and universal.

Over time, we’ll see where More To Lose finds its place along Miley’s discography. One thing is obvious, though: the song keeps people talking, making them feel, and most importantly: listening-worthy cultural capital that the winning team will definitely take home.
