Sutton Foster and Hugh Jackman’s relationship was platonic before it blossomed into a romance.
While Foster and Jackman crossed paths as fellow members of the Broadway community, their camaraderie grew stronger when they were both cast in the 2022 revival of The Music Man. While sharing the stage for more than a year, Foster and Jackman grew close.
“He has an impeccable reputation of being the hardest working man, incredibly kind, and generous—and all of that is true. He disarms everyone, and he doesn’t make anything about him,” Foster gushed of her costar in a June 2022 interview with Vogue. “And he’s now become one of my best friends, which was a surprise, because you usually go into these things thinking, ‘Well, I hope we get along.’ But we just spent Memorial Day with our families. It’s really fun to meet new friends after 40.”
Both Jackman and Foster were in relationships with other people when they first met. The Deadpool and Wolverine actor was married to long-time love Deborra-Lee Furness, while Foster was married to Ted Griffin. In September 2023, Jackman and Furness announced they had separated after nearly three decades of marriage. The following year, Foster filed for divorce from Griffin.

In November 2024, Us Weekly reported that Jackman called it quits with Furness because of the actor’s “relationship” with Foster.
“A lot of people on Broadway knew, and we kept it quiet because both of them are so nice and great people,” a source exclusively told Us at the time. “Everyone respected their privacy. But there was an affair and overlap.”
Two months later, Jackman and Foster confirmed their romance while enjoying a date night out in Los Angeles.
