A mom in Texas made a grisly discovery when her parolee son showed up at her home last weekend…
According to a criminal complaint obtained by KCEN on Monday, Sandra Ozment found her 36-year-old son, Richard Tanner Ozment, standing outside of her home in China Spring on Saturday, September 21, and appeared “very sweaty.” She attempted to walk past him, but he blocked her path. However, Richard was not fast enough, as the complaint stated Sandra spotted “a human foot lying on the ground behind an RV” in her yard. OMG?!?!
Per KWTX, as the mother walked behind the RV, she then found the body of a “very badly injured” woman — who has since been identified as 38-year-old Michaela Brooker. Absolutely horrifying. Sandra screamed:
“What have you done?!”

Richard claimed to his mom that Michaela “tried to stab me.” But at that point, his mom did not want to hear it. She retreated back into the house and “barricaded herself” while her husband called 911 — to which the son begged her not to. KCEN reported the complaint stated that the China Spring Fire Department arrived at the scene first and saw Richard fleeing the home, starting what authorities called an “”xhaustive manhunt.” It was not until 10 hours later that police located him inside an underwater stock tank around 100 yards away from where he allegedly attacked Michaela.
As for the victim? She was flown to the Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Temple, and she died from her injuries. So, so sad. Richard was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. In a news conference on Monday, McLennan County Sheriff Parnell McNamara said the suspect attacked Michaela with a machete and concrete block. Whoa. He added:
“This is one of the most horrific, horrible, brutal, senseless attacks that we have seen in a long time. It never should have happened.”
The sheriff revealed Richard was released on parole recently after only serving 10 years of a 40-year sentence for burglary! He also was charged with sexual assault when he was a juvenile. What the f**k. Why was Richard released so early?! It is something that has boggled McNamara’s mind, as well. He said:
“He never should’ve gotten out and he did. Anytime you see somebody paroled out early like this and they commit this kind of crime, it’s senseless. It didn’t have to happen. And this is so brutal, you can only imagine what this lady went through with this attack.”
It is unknown why Richard showed up at his mom’s house or attacked Michaela. However, the sheriff said the suspect and victim did know each other. The exact nature of their relationship is unclear. At this time, Richard remains behind bars at the McLennan County Jail on a $1 million bond.
What an awful, awful tragedy. Reactions, Perezcious readers? Let us know in the comments.
