Tori Spelling feels a lot of guilt when it comes to her kids since her breakup with Dean McDermott.
As you know, the actress filed for divorce from her husband in March following months of speculation they were having problems. They were married for nearly two decades and had five children together: Liam, Stella, Hattie, Finn, and Beau. As you can imagine, going through a divorce, raising your kids as a single parent, and trying to work is a lot to juggle for one person. It’s tough. And it’s leading to a lot of mom guilt for Tori. She explained on Thursday’s episode of her Misspelling podcast:
“I’m constantly letting [my kids] down because my life is not stable. Their lives are not stable. The love’s there, but they’re on this roller-coaster with me, unfortunately.”
Money is a huge worry for Tori these days. And now she’s finally open about it! The Beverly Hills, 90210 alum explained that “financially, work was really stable for quite a long time,” all thanks to the “multiple shows and multiple product lines and brands and just was a workhouse and an empire.” Her first four kids saw that side the most, as they had “a certain life” she “provided for them through work.” However, everything changed “all of a sudden,” and “things weren’t stable” anymore. Oof.
Tori has been doing her best to get her family in a better place financially. She shared that over the past three months, she has been “working my butt off” and filming a new project. That’s amazing! However, she now finds it hard to balance her busy work schedule with being a mother. While the Dancing With the Stars alum is away for her job, a lot of the responsibility has fallen on her eldest daughter Stella to help take care of her siblings. That just makes Tori “feel really guilty” at the end of the day:
“When I’m working and I’m gone all day, it falls a lot on my 16-year-old to really oversee the family. I feel really guilty when I come home at the end of the day. People have babysitters or nannies or housekeepers or things like that, but we’re just us — I know that’s probably really hard for the public to understand, but it’s true.”
And what doesn’t help? On top of everything else, Tori stresses over the fact that she and Dean’s children see all the chatter about their breakup online. The former reality star continued:
“They’re privy to more than I think that I’m comfortable with children being privy to just because we move as a family unit now because we’re just — I shouldn’t say fight or flight — but we’re going. They’re on this journey with me and I can’t keep things from them. I have children that are old enough that they read things online. They read the false stuff, but they read the semi-accurate stuff and they read the true stuff.”
We give Tori props for being so honest about this. We’re sure a lot of moms feel this way at times when trying to balance work and home life. Listen to the podcast (below):
