Fans have long wondered if Alaskan Bush People could be coming back for another season or some other sort of revival. However, legal documents have recently confirmed the original series’ fate. In addition, this comes out as an ongoing lawsuit concerns the family.
Fans Last Saw Alaskan Bush People Come Out With New Episodes In 2022
Alaskan Bush People originally aired from 2014 to 2022, with 14 seasons. On the Discovery Channel series, viewers tuned into watch the Brown family as they tried to live off the grid in Alaska, led by Billy and Ami Brown.
Since the fourteenth season ended, fans have been following the lives of the family on social media as it continues to grow and change. Billy and Ami Brown’s children have notably grown up and started families of their own.
Some fans have also held onto the hope that the series would be getting a fifteenth season or some similar revival. However, The U.S. Sun has recently reported that the series has officially been canceled, with the series “no longer filming future episodes.”
The publication noted that Billy Brown’s business partner Robert Maughon filed a breach of contract lawsuit concerning the family. The lawsuit is against Billy’s estate and business Alaskan Wilderness Family Productions. Notably, the suit also came out in 2021, around two months after Billy’s passing.
Ami Brown, who serves as the executor of the estate, was later listed as a defendant in the case. Ami shared testimony in April 2024 that discussed the show’s fate. As the documents read, “Testimony acknowledging that the show ‘Alaskan Bush People’ ultimately had 14 seasons, with the last season being filmed in 2022.”
Notably, the documents refer to the series in the past tense. Another example read, “These breaches occurred despite the significant profits generated by [Alaskan Wilderness Family Productions], particularly through the television series ‘Alaskan Bush People’ which was featured on the Discovery Channel network.”
An Upcoming Settlement Conference Concerning The Lawsuit Has Been Scheduled
In addition, as the publication noted, Alaskan Bush People is not listed as one of Discovery Channel’s “properties” on its media page. Meanwhile shows like Naked and Afraid to Gold Rush are included.
That said, the series is still listed on the network’s main page. However, the website hasn’t posted an update on the series since September 2022.
While unconfirmed, the website mused that the lawsuit could be a reason for the original series ending. Robert was previously reported as having claimed to have entered a contract with Billy towards the start of 2009. He reportedly invested $20,000.
In exchange, Robert claimed that Billy would pay 10%. This would come from income from publications and sales from Alaska Wilderness Family Productions books. He also claimed a later contract was made, in which he invested $10,000 for a “lifetime.”
In the documents, Maughon claimed, “Billy Bryan Brown failed to pay to Plaintiff Robert Micky Maughon the monies called for in the Ten Year contract.” It was also quoted, “Billy Bryan Brown and [the business] have failed to pay to Plaintiff the monies called for in the Lifetime contract.”
Back in February 2025, Ami had also filed a motion to dismiss claims made against her. As she claimed, “[There is] no joint community obligation of a spouse for the debts of the other spouse.” A settlement conference is also set for April 25. .
