Bering Sea Gold returned with its new season on August 16. However, with the show’s return, there was also the return of someone that not all fans enjoy watching. Steve Riedel is back, and fans didn’t wait long to post their disappointment with him returning to the reality TV series.
Here is what fans had to say about Steve’s return to the new season.
Fans Blast Steve Riedel’s Bering Sea Gold Return
Bering Sea Gold is split into two shows, each revealing a different fishing season. The summer dredging season airs in the spring as Bering Sea Gold. The spring dredging season airs in the fall under the title Bering Sea Gold: Under The Ice. This new season is the latter, the 18th overall season of the show and the 13th for the ICE brand.
However, with the new season, many fans are not happy to see Steve Riedel back again. With that said, it shouldn’t be much of a surprise. He has been part of the show since Season 1. His daughter, Emily, has made her name on the show as well. She is the captain of the Eroica. However, when Steve popped up in the new season premiere, some fans lashed out.
In a Reddit thread, one fan asked why they keep bringing Steve back each season. “The guy is just filler. Does nothing. I absolutely cannot stand him in any episode. I just FF whenever he’s on,” they wrote. This led to other Redditors chiming in:
- “I hope they have him on to do something weird or infuriating once a season. This show is a comedy more than a reality show. But the weirdos is why I watch”
- “I really miss Riedel and Meisterheim together. Watching Scott lose his sh*t over Steve’s antics was the real gold.”
Steve Riedel Still Has His Bering Sea Gold Fans
However, at the same time, there were people who loved seeing Steve on the show. While some fans might not understand his character, other Bering Sea Gold fans say that he represents what the show is really about.
While the show is about the dredging, it is also about life in Nome, Alaska, where he fits in perfectly. Because of this, some fans say he is the perfect person to appear in the series.
- “Steve Riedel is quintessential to having the full Nome experience though. I grew up in a similarly small town and these people are gold.”
- “Steve is the court jester, and an OG. He gave the other court jesters, the Kelly’s, their start. I enjoy his bits.”
- “If Bering Sea Gold were a person, it would be Steve Riedel. Love that guy. He’s like a train wreck, as is the show. You can’t take your eyes off ‘em.”
The new season of Bering Sea Gold premiered on August 16. As Discovery Channel’s longest-running show about Alaskan gold, it returned with more gold discovery. However, it also returned with lots of drama and that is what makes it fun.
