Catfish: The TV Show has officially been canceled by MTV after thirteen years and nine seasons. The hit reality series saw some major changes over the last several years. Now, it has been axed, but what is known so far? Keep reading for more details.
Catfish Officially Canceled By MTV
After nine seasons and thirteen years, Catfish: The TV Show has officially been axed by MTV. The reality series started as a documentary about Nev Schulman and his experience with a catfish. He had been deceived by a woman who was not who he thought she was. That spawned the MTV show, which he co-hosted with Max Joseph. They would answer viewers who were in relationships with people whom they had never met. The goal was to get the two together and see if this was a genuine connection or all based on a lie. Some couples legitimately liked each other and stayed together.

However, some found out that the person they were speaking to was a scammer or out for vengeance. It was a mixed bag, but fans loved it. Sadly, Max departed to pursue his film career, and the search was on for someone new. Kamie Crawford landed the gig but announced she was leaving in October 2024. The fate of the show was up in the air, but it has now been confirmed that it is over. As of now, the show is not completely done as it looks like it will be shopped at various networks.
The goal is to find Catfish a new home away from MTV, as it has had a very strong fanbase. Sadly, it has not aired new episodes in over a year, but it has 242 under its belt. Nev Schulman has already moved on with his life and has become a real estate agent. He has shown off his new office space at Coldwell Banker and is beyond thrilled with the new start. Of course, it is unlikely that he would turn down the chance to host a new variation of the series.
Fans Want The Show Back
MTV fans have long wanted Catfish to return and took to social media to express this. They asked when new episodes would be airing and felt that it had been gone for far too long. At the same time, Nev Schulman was in a nearly fatal bike accident, so he needed to recover. Keep in mind that this is a show that lasted throughout the pandemic by doing all of the work remotely. Hopefully, it gets picked up elsewhere so viewers can continue on with the journey:
- Are you coming back to make new episodes?
- Godd*mn I miss this show. Look, I’ll freaking host—let’s go!
- Sooo… New episodes soon, pretty please?
Some fans felt that the show had been canceled, but no one was speaking about it. They appear to have been right.
