Since Deadliest Catch‘s Captain Keith Colburn suffered a medical emergency at sea, fans are anticipating an update on his condition. The incident especially made an impression on fans as it was televised on the show. Fans are also being kept in anticipation as the show’s current season only has one episode left to air.
Deadliest Catch Fans Show The Medical Emergency Onscreen
On Deadliest Catch, Keith is the co-captain of the F/V Wizard vessel with his brother, Monte “Mouse” Colburn. During an episode that aired on October 1, Keith suffered what fans believe was a stroke or cardiac event while at sea.
The incident was all the more harrowing as Monte had to contend with harsh waters to bring Keith to the closest airstrip to get him a medevac. Eventually, Keith was flown to a hospital in Anchorage, Alaska, where he received medical treatment.
Notably, as previously reported, Keith’s health scare occurred after the two brothers had a confrontation about a recent financial loss. Keith initially collapsed within the wheelhouse and was later found unresponsive. At the time, there had been some criticism from fans for showcasing the incident, with some asking why the Coast Guard wasn’t immediately contacted.
As noted by Parade, doctors have all but ruled out a heart attack. It’s believed the cause was due to negative levels of troponin. Normally during such cardiac events, levels of this enzyme are increased.
That said, a heart attack hasn’t been ruled out entirely. There is also some speculation that Keith suffered a mini-stroke, but it is believed further testing is needed. As Parade noted, doctors don’t seem to have solid answers over what happened to Keith at this time.
Tests Are Still Being Done By The Penultimate Episode
The show is currently in its 20th season, which started airing in June, with one episode left to air. Fans were hoping to have gotten an update on the episode airing October 15, “Graveyard for the Lost.”
A voiceover during the episode claimed that the transient ischemic attack, or mini-stroke, is currently believed to be the cause of what happened. However, a phone call between Monte and Keith revealed that the latter was “still having a lot of tests done.”
Thanks to this, fans are hoping that they will receive an update during the season’s final episode, “Nothin’ but Mammals.” The episode is expected to premiere on both the Discovery Channel and Discovery+ on October 22, 2024.
