HGTV host and fan favorite Erin Napier is not the same person that viewers see on television, and her real persona has been exposed. So, who is the mother and wife, and what do fans have to say about this? Keep reading for more details.
Erin Napier Not Same Person On TV
Fans have come to love Ben and Erin Napier on Home Town, which airs on HGTV. Despite all of the network cancellations, it seems the Napiers have made it through. She is a sweetie with a heart of gold, and she appears to adore her husband more than words can say. Yet, some fans do not believe that she is the same person off-screen as she portrays on her reality series. They have seen her act overly, sugary sweet, and recall her early days on Home Town. That was not how she always was, and it is a hard pill to swallow.

Followers feel that Erin has morphed into somewhat of a “caricature” of herself. She started one way, educated, relatable, and a loving, modern woman. However, as time has gone on, she has evolved into someone who is playing the role of Southern mama. It seems fake, and fans are struggling to understand how she switched so drastically. Immediately, followers chimed in and stated that she is likely not that person in real life. She may be playing a part, and despite the idea that this is reality television, there is a staged element.
In a recent post, the HGTV star asked her followers if they were “soaking up this time with your kids like raisin bran in whole milk?” That reference made many feel uncomfortable, as they did not think it was genuine, and that she was playing into what she thinks fans want. This is not entirely true, and it has been noted that Erin and Ben are very nice people, but nothing like what is seen on television. So, who is she really, and do fans like who she has become?
The Real Erin
So, who is the real Erin Napier, away from the HGTV cameras? Again, those who have met her and her husband have stated that they are very kind, which is great to know. However, they are likely more down-to-earth and normal, while not playing to an audience:
- Most HGTV shows are very much “scripted” and performed, and Erin is playing a role, just as Ben, Josh, etc. also do. I suspect she’s being coached to lay it on thick. (I honestly haven’t noticed it all that much but I’m not Southern.)
- I hate every single show that does the “aww shucks, down home southern thing” because it feels like an act after a while. And it’s a caricature of southern culture.
It has been acknowledged that Erin and Ben love where they are from, and they would do anything for their people. Yet, fans would like to see OG Erin before she began laying it on too thick. It feels as though she is portraying what she thinks a Southern woman should be. Moreover, she has lost herself somewhere along the way.
